Agartala, 15th November 2025: Maharaja Bir Bikram University today celebrated the “Janjatiya Gaurav Divas” by organizing an Exhibition on “Tribal Art and Craft of India”.
Dr. Bibhas Deb, Vice Chancellor of MBB University and President of the program inaugurated the exhibition. Dr. Sumanta Chakrabarti, Registrar of MBB University and Jyoti Prasad Debbarma, Controller of Examinations of MBB University were also present.
Various items of tribal art and craft of different tribal communities of India, prepared by the students of the University were exhibited in this exhibition.
Dr. Runu Dhar, Associate Professor and Coordinator, IQAC delivered the welcome address. Dr. Dhar, in his speech, presented the perspective of the celebration of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas recollecting the contribution of Great Freedom Fighter Birsa Munda in the freedom struggle of India against the British. He welcomed all the dignitaries and students present in the program. The significance and importance of the “Janjatiya Gaurav Divas” were discussed by Raima Debbarma, student of Political Science Department; Dhruba Chakma, student of the English department; Labani Chakma, student of the Department of Library & Information Sciences and Nantu Debbarma, student of the Department of Mathematics.
In his speech, Jyoti Prasad Debbarma, Controller of Examinations stated that the life and struggle of Great Birsa Munda should be the inspiration of the youths of India. He stated that the tribal people of India have always protested against economic and social exploitation. They have always fought to protect their ethnic heritage and legacy. He emphasized on the unity in diversity to build a unified India.
Dr. Sumanta Chakrabarti, Registrar, in his speech, described the assimilation between nature and tribal communities. He said that the tribal people are the worshiper & the protector of the environment and they never compromise with the safety of the nature. In this context he mentioned the protests by the tribes of Amazon forest in Brazil for conservation of Amazon rain forest. He emphasized on the development of Indian tradition by securing indigenous cultural as well as demographical identity.
In his Presidential Address, Dr. Bibas Deb, Vice Chancellor of MBB University said that the evolution of tribal art and culture with time is an interesting research problem. He stated that for India to become “Biswa Guru” by 2047, the integration of modern technology with indigenous tribal practices is highly essential. He discussed on the significance of great Birsa Munda in the perspective of Indian tradition and encouraged the students to organize such programs in the future. Dr. Anuj Kanchan Datta Roy, Assistant Professor, MBB University delivered the votes of thanks by thanking everyone to make the program successful.
