Centre sanctions Rs 273.46 Cr or AGMC Expansion

Agartala, 15th May 2026:   Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday announced that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has approved Rs 273.46 crore for the expansion and infrastructure development of Agartala Government Medical College.

Dr. Saha thanked Narendra Modi and J. P. Nadda for sanctioning the fund aimed at strengthening medical education and healthcare services in Tripura. He said the project will help increase 100 MBBS seats and 83 postgraduate seats in 19 critical and specialty disciplines from the 2026–27 academic session.

Following the expansion, Tripura will have a total of 550 MBBS seats and 196 postgraduate seats, which the Chief Minister described as a record rise in the last four years.Dr. Saha also reiterated the state government’s commitment to improving healthcare facilities and creating better opportunities for medical aspirants in the state.
