Centre Steps Up Push to Implement Tripura Accord, MHA Team to Hold Talks Next Week

Date:

Agartala, 6th September 2026 :  The Centre is preparing to step up the implementation of the Tripartite Agreement signed to address the long-standing concerns of Tripura’s indigenous population, with a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) scheduled to visit the state next week.

The proposed visit comes days after a crucial meeting involving Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha and TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma. The meeting focused on measures to accelerate the implementation of commitments made under the agreement.

According to sources, the MHA team will engage with senior officials of the Tripura government, representatives of TIPRA Motha and other stakeholders during its visit. The discussions are expected to assess the progress made so far, examine pending issues and identify areas where decisions or administrative intervention are required.

The agreement, signed in March 2024 by the Centre, the Tripura government and TIPRA Motha, seeks to address a range of issues concerning the state’s indigenous communities, including their political, social, economic, cultural and constitutional interests.

Sources in TIPRA Motha said the upcoming consultations could mark an important step towards moving the process from broad commitments to concrete implementation. A time-bound roadmap for resolving outstanding matters is also expected to be discussed.
