Agartala, 24th May 2024: In a troubling revelation, the Champahaor Primary Health Center, located under the Tulashikhar RD block in Khowai district, was found locked at its main gate in broad daylight, depriving the general public of crucial 24-hour medical services.
This situation casts a shadow over the efforts of Professor Dr. Manik Saha, the Chief Minister and Health Minister of the state, who is ardently working to elevate the standards of medical services in the region.
Despite the presence of a doctor and a nurse within the facility, they were not available to attend to the public. A sweeper was seen standing outside the locked gate, unable to provide a clear explanation for the lock. The sweeper’s uncertainty about whether the primary health center was operational only added to the confusion and frustration of the locals seeking medical assistance.
In a shocking turn, it was discovered that the state government’s initiative to combat drug abuse in Tripura is being undermined at this very health center. Health workers, supposed to be at the forefront of this battle, have seemingly disregarded the anti-drug campaign. The presence of intoxicant bottles as part of the center’s decor is a blatant contradiction to the government’s slogan of making Tripura drug-free.
Adding to the disarray, the government residences associated with the health center, which are surrounded by forest, lie vacant despite the availability of three quarters. Furthermore, the lack of an ambulance service at the primary health center leaves the residents of Champahao in a precarious situation, unable to access emergency medical transport when needed.
This incident raises serious questions about the administration and operational transparency of the Champahao Primary Health Center.
