Agartala, 13th July 2026: A child marriage attempt involving a 15-year-old girl in Fultali Raymura under Amtali Police Station was successfully prevented on Sunday night through the combined efforts of police, administration, and vigilant locals.
Authorities revealed that the girl’s parents had secretly planned to marry her off against her will, despite earlier assurances to community leaders that they would not proceed. The matter first came to light when the school’s headmistress alerted the State Women’s Commission and Childline workers, requesting urgent intervention.
On Sunday evening, reports reached the headmistress that the girl was being dressed as a bride and taken to a temple for a clandestine wedding. She immediately informed local panchayat leaders, youth volunteers, and the administration. Acting swiftly, West Tripura Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, and Amtali Police Station OC Inspector Paritosh Das coordinated the rescue operation.
A police team led by ASI Gopal Das, along with Child Protection officials, rushed to the girl’s residence around 10 p.m. The minor was rescued and later shifted to Agartala’s One-Stop Centre for safety.
Speaking to the media, the District Child Protection Officer confirmed that the girl has been taken into protective custody and further steps will be decided by the Child Welfare Committee. He praised the role of the school headmistress, local panchayat leaders, and socially conscious youth in preventing the marriage.
Officials emphasized that community vigilance is crucial to ending child marriage, noting that collective awareness and timely action can help eradicate the practice across both rural and urban areas.
