Residents of West Jolai Bari struggle with waterlogging due to poor drainage

Date:

Agartala, 13th July 2026:   Residents of West Jolai Bari’s Shilpi Para are facing severe hardship as the area remains waterlogged even after light rainfall, owing to the absence of proper drainage facilities.

Despite repeated claims of development on social media by Minister Shuklacharan Noatia and Jolai Bari Block Panchayat Samiti Chairman Tapas Dutta, the ground reality paints a different picture. Locals allege that promises made during the 2023 elections to transform the Jolai Bari constituency into a “model assembly” remain unfulfilled.

The newly constructed Belonia–Jolai Bari road lacks adequate drainage, causing water to accumulate and damage homes. Residents say the flooded roads have made it extremely difficult to reach schools, hospitals, and markets. Complaints lodged with local representatives, including Chairman Tapas Dutta, have yielded no tangible results.

On Monday, affected residents turned to the media to highlight their plight and appealed directly to the Chief Minister for urgent intervention. The community now awaits administrative action to address the crisis and provide relief to the people of Shilpi Para.
