Tripura Hit by Relentless Downpour; Agartala Faces Flood-Like Conditions as Rainfall Crosses 100 mm

Date:

Agartala, 13th July 2026:  Torrential rainfall has brought normal activities to a standstill in several parts of Tripura, with widespread waterlogging reported across the state. Continuous showers over the last 24 hours have affected traffic movement and created difficulties for residents in many areas.

Agartala recorded the highest rainfall in the state, receiving 138 mm of rain between 8:30 AM on July 12 and 8:30 AM on July 13, 2026, according to the Meteorological Centre, Agartala. Bishramganj in Sepahijala district recorded 116 mm, while South Tripura received 85 mm and Amarpur in Gomati district registered 61.3 mm of rainfall during the same period.

In view of the intense weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for West Tripura and Sepahijala districts, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging from 7 cm to 20 cm at isolated locations. A yellow alert remains in place for other parts of the state.

The heavy showers have resulted in severe waterlogging in Agartala and several neighbouring areas, disrupting road traffic and affecting everyday life. Local authorities are monitoring the situation as rainfall activity continues.

The Meteorological Centre has warned that isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall may persist across Tripura until July 16. Officials attributed the ongoing wet spell to active weather systems, including cyclonic circulations over the North Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh and adjoining regions, along with a trough extending towards Manipur, which is supporting moisture inflow over the state.

Residents have been advised to stay cautious as more rainfall is expected in the next few days.
