Agartala, 25th May 2025:  After days of silence, the police finally sprang into action in connection with an armed robbery that shocked residents of Uttar Phulbari in North Tripura. With the direct intervention of North Tripura Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai, Churaibari police arrested two suspects late last night for their alleged involvement in the violent break-in.

The robbery took place in the early hours of May 15 in Ward No. 5 of Uttar Phulbari under Churaibari police station limits. The victims, Rita Pal and her son Amit Pal were attacked at gunpoint while asleep in their home. According to reports, the robbers tied up Amit after threatening him with a firearm and a dagger. When Rita Pal rushed in after hearing her son’s cries, she too was overpowered and bound.

The assailants made off with Rs 50,000 in cash, gold ornaments valued between Rs 1.5 to Rs 2 lakh and two mobile phones. Displaying remarkable courage, Rita Pal later freed herself and her son. Amit Pal ran to inform Nasir Uddin, the deputy chief of the local gram panchayat and soon after, a formal complaint was lodged with the Churaibari police station.

A case (No. 17/25) was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and investigations were initiated. Days later, on Saturday night, police arrested two accused: Prosenjit (28), son of the late Suresh of Mukeshnagar in Unakoti district and Abdul Karim (20), son of the late Abdul Bari of Khadimpara under Churaibari police station.

Officer-in-Charge of Churaibari police station Khokan Saha confirmed that the accused were produced in court on Sunday with a plea for three-day police remand. “Efforts are underway to recover the stolen cash and jewellery,” said Saha.
