Governor flags off ‘Sundays on Cycle’ event to promote fitness and pollution-free future

Agartala, 25th May 2025:   Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu inaugurated the ‘Sundays on Cycle’ event in front of Ujjayanta Palace this morning emphasizing the need for fitness awareness and environmental sustainability. Organized by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) under the Fit India Movement and Khelo India initiative, the event aims to encourage a healthier lifestyle while advocating for a pollution-free future. 

Addressing the gathering, the Governor urged SAI to expand such initiatives across all districts of the state to maximize impact. Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Tinku Roy echoed the sentiment, highlighting significant improvements in sports infrastructure over the past five years. He also announced plans to develop cycling tracks across the state to further promote fitness and eco-friendly transportation. 

The event was attended by Dr. PK Chakraborty, Secretary of the Youth Affairs and Sports Department; SB Nath, Director; Laxman Dongari, Deputy Director of SAI; and John F. Kharsingh, General Secretary of the North-East Sports Association. The Governor also felicitated Arjuna Awardees Montu Debnath and Gopesh Debnath for their contributions to Indian sports. 

With increasing enthusiasm from participants and officials alike, the initiative is expected to pave the way for more such programs aimed at integrating fitness with environmental responsibility across the state.
