Agartala, May 14, 2023: Centre of Indian Trade Unions’ (CITU) state committee’s general council meeting was held on Sunday where unions’ national general secretary Tapan Sen was accompanied by state president Manik Dey and state general secretary Sankar Prasad Datta along with 150 members of the state committee at its headquarter here.

Speaking to media persons here at CITU state head office on Sunday afternoon, Sen said that he had also chaired a secretariat body meeting of CITU state committee on Saturday last while general council’s meeting was held on Sunday.

“In the meeting, elaborate discussion took place about the situation of working-class people, movements of trade union and facing hellish conditions, and how overcome such obstacles to move forward in various ways. Some decisions were also initiated”, he added.

Sen said “Apart from this, I have been here on behalf of CITU national committee as an observer and organizational member, we have discussed about the ongoing situation of working-class people and overall political, economic and social scenario throughout the country. We feel that that the situation going on under the regime of BJP-RSS led governments, Tripura is not isolated. A dangerous situation is prevailing across the country where the economic sector had been immensely affected. The state of recession is getting more and more intense, industrial production is going down continuously, its growth rate is going down continuously.”

“The process of BJP government is to spread as many lies as possible and make people accustomed to it. Agriculture is still in dire straits, when the farmers are not getting the price even after mass production, the farmers are being forced to leave the agricultural work in the cities and the land is being transferred to the corporate landlords which Modi wanted with these three farm bills, they are trying to make arrangements in that direction”, CITU national general secretary told reporters.

He also said that the Modi-led government has adopted new means of handing over public sector to private sector on lease for 30-35 years. Especially, the work started from providing various services. In view of this, the working class people had initiated a new movement that the government will not be allowed to enter the monetization process. CITU along with other organizations are collaborating to stage a protest against such demonic steps of the central government.
