Agartala, 27th June 2024 : In a stern declaration against perceived injustices towards workers, Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) state general secretary Shankar Prasad Datta announced plans for statewide protests.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Datta highlighted concerns stemming from a recent executive meeting held on June 25. “At our executive meeting, we discussed the pervasive challenges faced by the working class, both locally and nationally,” Datta remarked, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. “In response, we have devised specific programs to address these issues.”
Datta raised alarm over what he termed a “serious scam” in Tripura involving government actions towards tea plantation lands. “A state minister has improperly intervened by urging a tea estate owner to relinquish land, contrary to national Plantation Act provisions,” Datta asserted. “This has sparked immediate land acquisition efforts, prompting us to suspect ministerial involvement.”
The CITU leader further announced coordinated protests against these alleged injustices. “On July 1, we will stage public demonstrations at departmental offices and tea gardens across the state,” Datta declared. “Simultaneously, we will submit petitions to the Chief Secretary demanding swift government action against these illegal activities.”
Highlighting the plight of workers amidst what he termed “monstrous attacks,” Datta announced a mass gathering slated for July 4 in front of the CITU office near Swami Vivekananda Maidan here. “Workers from every corner of the state will unite in solidarity,” he affirmed.
Accompanying Datta at the press conference, CITU State Committee President Manik Dey echoed concerns over worker exploitation and endorsed the planned protests. The upcoming demonstrations underscore growing discontent among worker communities, aiming to push back against perceived injustices with resolute action.
