CITU’s 57th foundation day celebrated at Dharmanagar

Agartala, 30th May 2026:   The 57th Foundation Day of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) was observed in Dharmanagar subdivision of North Tripura on Saturday with due respect and spirited participation. The day-long program began at 8 a.m. with simultaneous flag hoisting across 14 zones of the subdivision, marking the start of the celebrations.

At 10 a.m., the main flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Dharmanagar subdivision office, led by CITU’s state vice-president Amitabh Dutta. This was followed by a vibrant cultural program at 11 a.m., featuring performances by local artists alongside union members and supporters. Later, at 1 p.m., a special discussion meeting was convened at the subdivision office, presided over by Niranjan Debnath, president of CITU’s Dharmanagar subdivision. The meeting was attended by subdivision secretary Jahurul Haque and state vice-president Amitabh Dutta.

Speaking at the meeting, Dutta highlighted CITU’s historic role in defending the rights of workers and the working class since its inception. He emphasized the need for a united struggle against current attempts to curtail labor rights and called for strengthening movements to secure just demands. Referring to CITU’s 57 years of legacy, he urged members to intensify efforts in safeguarding workers’ interests in the days ahead.
