CITU’s gathering was massive success, new committee formed: Datta

Agartala, 11th November 2025: CITU General Secretary Shankar Prasad Datta today said that yesterday’s massive public gathering organized by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) witnessed the participation of over 25,000 people, making it one of the largest rallies in 2025 which was a success.

Addressing the media, Datta alleged that the BJP had attempted to prevent and disrupt the meeting, instructing its Mandal units to create obstacles to stop people from attending. “They even threatened the public and transport drivers not to participate. Despite such challenges, people turned out in huge numbers, making the event a grand success,” Datta said.

Following the rally, CITU leaders held an internal meeting where a 48-page report was presented. On Monday, another conference was convened under the chairmanship of former minister Aghor Debbarma to discuss the report in detail.

During the conference, 38 delegates, including 11 women representatives, took part in the discussion and unanimously supported the report. Several proposals were submitted, including a call to continue protests demanding the restoration of law and order, which was passed unanimously.

A new CITU state committee was also formed, comprising 23 office bearers. Former minister Manik Dey was appointed as President, Shankar Prasad Datta retained the post of General Secretary Nirmal Roy was named Treasurer

Datta said the organization would continue to fight for workers’ rights and social justice in the coming days.
