Claims, counterclaims over vandalism at Boxanagar

Date:

Agartala, 22nd April 2026:  A controversial incident reported from Dayalpara in Boxanagar has now triggered a wave of accusations and counter-accusations among political parties. The developments took place just ahead of the scheduled visit of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.

According to allegations raised by Mahamaya Rani Debbarma, a resident of Dayalpara ADC Village, she and her husband were forced to take shelter in the jungle for nearly ten days due to threats, allegedly because of their association with the BJP. This morning, upon learning about the Chief Minister’s planned visit, the couple returned home.

However, they reportedly found their residence in a state of complete disarray. The house was surrounded by security personnel, including TSR and police. Doors were broken, windows left open, and household belongings, including items from their small grocery shop, were allegedly vandalized and scattered.

Speaking to media persons, an emotional Mahamaya questioned whether supporting a political party had become a punishable offense, claiming she had been left destitute by the incident.

The ruling BJP has alleged that a coordinated effort involving members of the CPI(M) and the Tipra Motha party is behind the incident, aimed at maligning the image of local MLA Tafajjal Hossain and exploiting the tense situation.

On the other hand, the Tipra Motha party has levelled serious allegations against BJP supporters, claiming that the vandalism was carried out under the direction of the local MLA after prior information about the Chief Minister’s visit. They alleged that the house was deliberately targeted to create a narrative ahead of the high-profile visit.

Rejecting these claims, BJP leaders questioned the plausibility of such an act, pointing out that Mahamaya’s house is located amidst 30 to 40 neighboring households, reportedly belonging to Tipra Motha supporters. They further emphasized that a strong police presence had already been deployed in the area since early morning, making such an incident unlikely under tight security.

Adding another layer to the controversy, counter-allegations have surfaced accusing MLA Tafajjal Hossain of personally visiting the area and staging the vandalism as part of a political strategy. These claims have rapidly circulated across social media, intensifying the political storm.

As of the time of reporting, no official statement has been issued by the MLA regarding the allegations. Meanwhile, party insiders suggest that the accusations may have been deliberately fabricated to implicate him.

With no verified account of events yet established, the incident continues to fuel political tensions in the region, highlighting the fragile post-election environment and the urgent need for a clear and impartial investigation.
