Agartala, 22nd April 2026: Senior BJP leader and Member of Parliament Biplab Kumar Deb today launched a sharp attack on the West Bengal government, alleging serious lapses in border security, law and order, and cooperation with the Centre in tackling militancy.
Addressing a press conference, Deb accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of prioritizing “vote-bank politics” over national security. He claimed that links have emerged between recent militant activities across the country and locations in West Bengal, calling the situation “deeply concerning” for the nation.
The MP alleged that despite repeated proposals by the Centre to install barbed-wire fencing along a 447-km stretch of the India-Bangladesh border in districts such as Murshidabad, Malda, and South 24 Parganas, the state government failed to cooperate. He further claimed that efforts by the Border Security Force (BSF) to curb infiltration were obstructed due to political considerations.
Deb also alleged that thousands of infiltrators apprehended by the BSF were released on the instructions of the state government, leading to an increase in illegal infiltration, including Rohingya entrants. He claimed that inadequate legal action against such individuals has emboldened further cross-border movement.
Referring to a recent investigation into a blast case in Bengaluru, Deb stated that leads pointed to West Bengal, with a suspected militant reportedly arrested in South 24 Parganas. He further alleged the existence of a network involved in producing forged documents, which he claimed is aiding extremist elements.
On the political front, Deb said that if the BJP comes to power in West Bengal, it would complete border fencing within a month and strengthen security infrastructure. He also criticized the state government over issues related to cultural preservation and women’s rights, alleging neglect of heritage sites and lack of support for key legislative measures.
Deb concluded by stating that people in West Bengal are increasingly seeking political change and are becoming aware of what he termed as “misgovernance.”
