Agartala, 26th July 2025: A shocking incident has surfaced from the Belonia subdivision, where a Class 10 student reportedly attempted suicide after allegedly being humiliated by a teacher. The student identified as Trisha Majumdar was rushed to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala in critical condition after consuming poison.
Trisha, the daughter of Samar Majumdar, a daily wage labourer and resident of the Barpathari Sonapur area is known to be a brilliant student and reportedly tops her class at Barpathari Sonapur School. However, her father alleged that certain teachers were unable to accept her academic success due to her humble background.
According to the family, the issue began after Trisha secured 13 out of 14 marks in a Biology test. She reportedly questioned the deduction of one mark for an answer written correctly but in a different pen. “When Trisha approached her teacher, Bina Das Patari regarding the unfair marking, she was publicly insulted and abused in front of other students,” said her father.
Distressed and humiliated, Trisha returned home and allegedly consumed poison. She was initially taken to Barpathari Primary Health Centre and later referred to South Tripura District Hospital as her condition worsened. Today, she was shifted again to GBP Hospital in Agartala for advanced treatment.
Trisha’s family has demanded strict action against the teacher. “My daughter is fighting for her life. We want justice. No teacher has the right to humiliate a child like this,” her father told reporters.
The family also claimed they approached the Santirbazar Police Station to lodge a complaint but were turned away. “When we informed SI Ratan Debnath about the incident and requested to file a case, he said it could not be done,” alleged a family member.
