Agartala, 5th October 2026 : Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Monday appealed to political parties and their supporters to maintain peace and avoid any form of violence as counting of votes for the Village Committee elections continued across the state.
Speaking to reporters, Saha said the trends available so far were encouraging and broadly reflected the expectations of his party. However, he cautioned that the final electoral picture would emerge only after counting was completed.
“Very good results are coming and we are getting the results as expected,” the Chief Minister said, describing the emerging outcome as a victory for “India”.
With the votes being counted from ballot papers, Saha said the process was taking time and the overall position would become clearer later in the afternoon.
The Chief Minister also acknowledged reports of disturbances at a few locations but said these were isolated incidents and the administration was keeping the situation under control. According to him, adequate police deployment had been made at sensitive locations and security personnel were responding wherever intervention was required.
Saha stressed that maintaining peace after the declaration of results was particularly important. He urged victorious candidates and their supporters not to engage in retaliation or create tension in areas where political competition had been intense.
“The end should be good and beautiful. Even after winning the election, let us stay away from post-election terror,” he said.
Taking a political swipe at the Communist parties, Saha alleged that they had a history of violence following elections. He also claimed that the latest electoral trends suggested that the Communists were facing a difficult political future in the state.
Despite reports of sporadic incidents, the Chief Minister maintained that the situation across Tripura remained largely peaceful and expressed confidence that the counting process would conclude without major disruption.
