Village Committee Results Will Return Power to People at Grassroots: Pradyot

Date:

Agartala, 5th  October 2026 :  Tipra Motha Party founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Monday said the outcome of the Village Committee elections would mark an important step towards restoring decision-making power to people at the grassroots.

Speaking as counting of votes continued across Tripura, Pradyot said the election was particularly significant in the context of the long-standing struggle for the constitutional rights of indigenous people.

“Today’s result will restore the power of the grassroots back to the people. The long struggle in the Supreme Court, which I personally fought to ensure that our constitutional rights are restored, has reached an important stage,” he said.

Pradyot stressed that the significance of the election should not be viewed solely through the performance of individual political parties. According to him, the people themselves would be the ultimate beneficiaries of the electoral process.

“Whichever party wins today, the most important thing is that the people have won. This is the power of Tiprasa,” he said.

Counting for the Village Committee elections is underway at various locations across the state, with early trends showing Tipra Motha performing strongly in several areas.

The election assumes importance as the Village Committees form an important part of grassroots governance within the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). The results are expected to shape the political landscape at the village level across the tribal council areas.
