CM chairs meeting on disaster says Govt prepared to handle disaster situations

Date:

Agartala, 29th April 2026:  Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that special emphasis has been given to coordinated measures and rapid relief efforts to ensure public safety during disasters. He added that District Magistrates of all districts of the state are working properly to deal with the situation, and everyone has to be more vigilant in handling disasters.

Dr. Saha said this while participating in a review meeting organized with senior officials of the state administration at the TIFT Conference Hall in Agartala today.

Dr. Saha said that it has been raining in different parts of the state for the last few days.

“Yesterday it rained with thunder, and today it has also rained. Overall, the current situation in all districts of the state—including where road blockages have occurred, where there is waterlogging, whether Anganwadi centers and schools have been damaged, the status of electricity and drinking water supply, and the condition of dams in different areas—was discussed in detail in today’s meeting to assess how much the people have been affected due to the disaster,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that they have also reviewed the measures taken by the administration in response to the disaster.

“It is seen that the District Magistrates have taken appropriate steps and are working properly. One person has died in Longtharai Valley due to lightning. Necessary compensation is being arranged everywhere. Being aware and vigilant is the most important thing. District Magistrates are working in all parts of the state. The Chief Secretary is monitoring the situation. The Director General of Police is also keeping an eye on it. The SDRF team is working. All concerned departments are working together. Last year too, there was heavy rainfall. Just like then, everyone is alert. But we have to be more alert,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that special importance has been given to coordinated action, preparedness, and quick relief measures to ensure public safety. The administration is always alert, and instructions have been issued to provide necessary assistance promptly.

Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Director General of Police Anurag, secretaries of various departments, and District Magistrates were present at the review meeting. The Chief Minister directed officials to review the situation arising in the state due to recent heavy rains and storms and take necessary measures.
