Agartala, November 04: The Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha, chaired a review meeting on traffic management of Agartala city on Saturday at the Civil Secretariat. The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police, the Secretary of Urban Development Department, the Secretary of Chief Minister, the Commissioner of Agartala Municipal Corporation, the District Magistrate of West Tripura, the OSD of Chief Minister and other senior officials. The meeting discussed and decided on the measures taken and the plans to be implemented for traffic control and parking management in the city.
The Chief Minister said that the traffic in the state is increasing every day, but the road infrastructure remains the same. He said that there is a need to plan for road widening and traffic management to reduce road congestion. He emphasized on strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations by the drivers and the pedestrians. He also instructed the officials to take necessary steps to ensure smooth flow of traffic and safety of the people.
The Commissioner of Agartala Municipal Corporation, Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, presented the possible aspects of parking management in the city area. He said that the corporation is working on creating more parking spaces and regulating the parking fees. He also said that the corporation is planning to introduce smart parking system and e-rickshaw service to ease the parking problem and to promote eco-friendly transportation.
The Superintendent of Traffic Police, Manik Das, also gave a detailed presentation on traffic management in the meeting. He said that the traffic police is using modern technology and equipment to monitor and manage the traffic. He said that the traffic police is also conducting awareness campaigns and enforcement drives to educate and penalize the traffic violators. He said that the traffic police is coordinating with the other departments and agencies to improve the traffic situation in the city.
The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by the Chief Minister and a resolution to implement the decisions taken in the meeting.
