CM felicitates families of martyred jawans and 28 eminent players of the state

Agartala, August 14, 2022: The Youth and Sports Affairs department on Sunday organized a programme where eminent sportspersons and family members of the martyrs were felicitated at Agartala Town Hall here. The felicitation ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha, YAS minister Sushanta Chowdhury, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, YAS department’s Director Sharadindu Choudhury, and others.

The family members of recently martyred state jawans- Mangaram Debbarma, martyred jawans Shambhu Roy, martyred jawan Prashanta Deb and martyred jawan Sanjay Debnath were felicitated on the occasion. Besides, 28 eminent players of the state who have represented the country or the state in various international and national level events including Prime Minister Rashtriya Bal Shakti 2022 awardee Puhabi Chakraborty were felicitated on the occasion. Chief Minister Prof Dr Saha, YAS minister Sushanta Chowdhury and other guests presented them with wreaths and souvenirs.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr Saha said “There are many talented athletes in the state. Development of sports talent was not only due to proper infrastructure. The current government has given special importance to the development of sports infrastructure in the state to improve the standard of sports.” Apart from infrastructural development of sports fields, the Chief Minister also emphasized on quality training of sports coaches.

He said that with strong will power, specific goals and adequate practice, desired success can be achieved. A prime example of this is Olympian gymnast Padmashri Dr Deepa Karmakar, the pride of the state. He emphasized on the progress of children of the state in the field of sports following the Padmashri Deepa Karmakar.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister said that today’s event is literally an exceptional event. He thanked the state sports department for this innovative initiative. The Chief Minister said that the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga program which has been taken up from August 13 to 15 across the country and also in the state on the call of the Prime Minister has really awakened the countrymen in the spirit of patriotism.
