CM holds review meeting on Bru resettlement, directs to expedite process

Agartala: Aug 26. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha today directed the officials of revenue department to expedite the resettlement process of Bru displaced people.“The process of permanent resettlement of the Bru families came in the state from Mizoram should be completed expeditiously within the stipulated time frame. Bru refugee leaders must be more proactive in providing the list of families whose names are not yet available for area-based resettlement by August 31, 2022”, CM said

 Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha said this in a review meeting on the resettlement process of Brus in the state today. He said that the Brus have got the opportunity to resettle permanently in Tripura after many years based on the signing of a historic agreement between the Government of India and the Government of Tripura, the Government of Mizoram and the Bru Organization.

“So this rehabilitation process needs to be completed quickly”, he said.In this regard, he called for the cooperation of all, including the Bru leaders. The Chief Minister said there may be minor hiccups in the rehabilitation process but these will be resolved in due course. The Chief Minister emphasized on completing the rehabilitation process transparently by August 31, 2022 as per the guidelines of the Central Government.In the meeting, Punit Agarwal, Principal Secretary, Revenue Department discussed in detail about the progress of Bru rehabilitation process in the state. He said permanent resettlement of Bru  in the state is going on. 13 places have been identified for resettlement of 37,136 people out of 6,959 families. So far 3,526 families have been resettled at a total of 8 locations. Besides, lists of additional 1051 families have also been received from Bru leaders for resettlement. The Chief Secretary said that so far the list of names for area-wise resettlement of 2,382 families has not been received from Bru leaders. He also said that by August 31 this process should be completed by sending the list of names of bru families for the identified area-based rehabilitation in accordance with the guidelines of the central government.

Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Tribal Welfare Minister Rampada Jamatia, Fisheries Minister Prem Kumar Reang, MLA Pramod Reang, MDC Bhumikananda Reang, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests KS Shetty, Dhalai, North and South Tripura District Magistrates, and other officials were present.
