Agartala, 27th September 2025:   Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that the state government is working with special emphasis on the overall welfare of Divyangjan, who are an important part of society.

He informed that at present, allowances of Rs 2,000 each are being provided to about 19,582 Divyangjan people. In addition, the state government has made arrangements for tax exemptions for employees with disabilities.

Dr. Saha was speaking at a program for the distribution of medical aid materials to Divyangjan at the Muktadhara Auditorium in Agartala.

The event was organized by the Social Welfare and Social Education Department in collaboration with the Youth Affairs and Sports Department.

Highlighting the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, Dr. Saha said that various service activities have been undertaken across the state.

“One of the focus areas is the health sector. Blood donation camps, patient visits, and health check-ups are being organized. Such initiatives will continue till October 2. We also celebrated the birth anniversary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, the founder of Ekatma Manav Darshan. About 65% of our country’s population is youth, below 35 years of age. They are our strongest human resource,” he said.

Calling the day’s program significant, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for greater sensitivity towards Divyangjan.

“Many in society wrongly consider the Divyangjan as a burden. But they are human beings like us, with difficulties in certain areas. Various obstacles come their way, but it is the responsibility of parents, guardians, and society at large to treat them with care, respect, and compassion. Our government stands firmly by their side. We have set up dedicated centers for them in many places. They are an integral part of our society, and when we take care of them, we enrich ourselves. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also given us clear directions to prioritize their welfare,” Dr. Saha said.

He stressed that efforts must be made to make Divyangjan self-reliant. As part of the fortnight-long service program, approval letters under the Chief Minister’s Scheme for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities were issued. About 891 individuals are expected to benefit, with an allocation of approximately Rs 44.55 lakh.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that Rs 34.35 crore is being spent every month on social allowances in the state. He added that provisions for reservation in employment, tax exemptions, and skill development programs for Divyangjan have already been implemented, along with other welfare measures.

Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharya, Youth Affairs and Sports Department Secretary P.K. Chakraborty, along with other public representatives and senior officials, attended the event as distinguished guests.
