Agartala: November 05. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has requested its counterpart Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma to resolve the exportation problems of areca nut produces in Tripura.
ICA department sources said that the export of areca nut produces in the state is restricted to export in other states through Assam.
“In recent times, areca nut growers and traders in the state are facing problems in exporting areca nuts to other parts of the country, including Assam, due to Assam Police’s obstruction at the Churaibari check post. As a result, areca nut farmers and traders are facing disruptions in their livelihood”, a press release from ICA said.
They also informed that after the matter came to notice, the Tripura government took initiatives so that areca nut growers and traders can send their produce to Assam and other states of the country without any hassle.“As the matter still remains unresolved, the Chief Minister of the state Prof. (Dr) Manik Saha spoke to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma over the phone and requested the Chief Minister’s direct intervention by writing a letter to resolve the issue. So that the livelihood of betel nut farmers and traders is secured”, the press release reads.
