CM Sends 600 Premium Kew Pineapples to Bangladesh PM as Goodwill Gesture

Agartala, 29th July 2026 :   Reinforcing the spirit of friendship and neighbourly ties, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday sent 600 premium Kew variety pineapples to Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman as a seasonal goodwill gift.

The consignment, packed in 100 cartons, was dispatched through the Akhaura Integrated Check Post near Agartala. After completing customs and land port formalities, the shipment was formally handed over at the India-Bangladesh border before being transferred to Bangladeshi vehicles for onward transportation.

The ceremonial handover was attended by Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department Secretary Apurba Roy, Director Dr. Phanibhushan Jamatia, Consultant Dr. Rajib Ghosh, Santanu Debbarma, Land Ports Authority of India official Debashish Majumdar, along with other senior government officials. Representatives from the Assistant High Commission of India in Chittagong, including Consul Officer Pankajjyoti Das and Officer Sajib Chakraborty, were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Agriculture Secretary Apurba Roy said the gesture reciprocates the seasonal mangoes recently presented by Bangladesh and reflects the long-standing tradition of exchanging gifts between the two neighbours.

“Tripura has been sending its famous Kew pineapples to Bangladesh every year as a symbol of goodwill and mutual respect. We hope this initiative will further enhance the popularity of our premium-quality pineapples and create greater market opportunities in Bangladesh and other neighbouring countries,” Roy said.

Director Dr. Phanibhushan Jamatia said that only the finest Kew variety pineapples, known for their sweetness and quality, were selected for this year’s consignment. A total of 600 pineapples packed in 100 cartons were sent as part of the annual goodwill exchange.
