Agartala, 29th July 2026 :    Tripura Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Wednesday conducted a comprehensive review of development initiatives in Unakoti district, underscoring the government’s focus on tourism-driven economic growth, modern infrastructure and sustainable employment opportunities.

The minister chaired the district’s first administrative review meeting as the Guardian Minister at the Kailashahar Circuit House, where he held detailed deliberations with senior district officials to assess the progress of ongoing projects and identify strategies to accelerate inclusive and people-centric development.

Addressing the meeting, Chowdhury said the state government’s foremost priority is to ensure that the benefits of development reach every household in Unakoti. He stressed the importance of creating an ecosystem that empowers youth through employment, entrepreneurship and self-reliance while ensuring balanced growth across both urban and rural areas.

A detailed review was carried out of projects in key sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, drinking water, road connectivity, electricity, public services and civic infrastructure. The minister directed officials to expedite the implementation of all welfare and development schemes, emphasising strict adherence to timelines, transparency, accountability and quality standards.

Recognising Unakoti’s immense historical, cultural, religious and natural significance, Chowdhury described tourism as a key engine for the district’s economic transformation. He called for focused efforts to strengthen tourism infrastructure, improve transport and communication networks and develop visitor-friendly amenities to attract more tourists and generate livelihood opportunities for local communities.

The meeting also explored ways to promote food processing industries and value addition to agricultural and locally produced goods, aiming to strengthen the rural economy, enhance farmers’ incomes and encourage small-scale entrepreneurship.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to Unakoti’s holistic development, the minister said the state is working with a long-term vision to transform the district into a vibrant centre of tourism, investment and economic activity. He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Tripura is pursuing inclusive, sustainable and infrastructure-led development to unlock the district’s full potential.
