CM unveils foundation stone of Howrah River Front Development Project at Agartala

Agartala, December 08, 2022: Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha unveiled the foundation stone of Howrah River Front Development Project at Dashami Ghat here on Thursday.

AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, MLA Surajit Datta, Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta and Secretary of Urban Development department Abhishek Singh along with four corporators- Bapi Das, Abhijit Mallik, Jahnabi Das Chowdhury and Shilpi Sen were also present at the unveiling ceremony. Agartala Smart City Limited (ASCL) organized this programme and the project is initiated under the City Investments to Innovate Integrate and Sustain (CITIIS) program.

Addressing the gathering, Prof Dr Saha congratulated the elected body of Agartala Municipal Corporation for completion of a year and working for the betterment of the capital city. He also extended his wishes to the Corporation’s Mayor Dipak Majumder and Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta.

“The people of Agartala city used to dream for a beautiful city with developed facilities. But as the dream is being executed, we all are happy. This project is a joint venture of AFD, European Union, Smart City, MoHUA, NIUA, CITIIS and Agartala Municipal Corporation. Here, everyone involved in this project have to work with full dedication for giving a good look”, he said.

Claiming Howrah  River as lifeline of city residents, Chief Minister said “The nature of this river has been spoiler as waste materials are being dumped at various spots over several years. However, the treatment plant to be installed will help in removal of wastes and supply better water to the residents of Agartala city.”Dr Saha also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inclusion of Agartala city’s name in the first list of Smart Cities. “Many tourists coming from outside the state have expressed their immense euphoria seeing the development, beautification and picturesque view of Agartala city,” he also added.
