Agartala, 1st June 2025: A dispute between CNG carriers and the Udaipur Traffic Unit escalated today leading to a temporary blockade of the national highway in the Brahmabari area.
The incident began when the wheels of a vehicle carrying CNG were locked by the Udaipur Traffic Unit, reportedly due to a violation of traffic regulations. Sources state that Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Minal Kanti Das ordered the action after the vehicle was allegedly causing congestion. Witnesses claim that the vehicle’s driver was subjected to foul language during the confrontation.
In response, CNG distributors halted gas supply across all stations in the Udaipur subdivision. As auto and small car drivers waited for gas, frustration mounted, prompting them to block the national highway in protest. The demonstrators accused authorities of unjustly penalizing the CNG vehicle and mistreating its driver.
Upon receiving the news, Udaipur Sub-Divisional Police Officer Nirman Das accompanied by officers from Radha Kishore Pur Police Station rushed to the site. Their intervention led to negotiations between the protesters and law enforcement, resulting in the blockade being lifted after approximately ninety minutes. During this period, traffic congestion stretched along the highway, affecting commuters.
Following discussions, DSP Minal Kanti Das and the CNG carriers reached an understanding, with an apology reportedly exchanged between the involved parties. Normal traffic and gas distribution resumed shortly thereafter.
