Agartala, 1st June 2025: A sudden cyclone wreaked havoc in Bhowmikpara, Gokulnagar last night leaving a local poultry farmer and his family in financial ruin.
Bijoy Sarkar, who had invested his life savings and a bank loan of Rs 12 lakh into a broiler chicken farm, saw his dreams crumble within minutes. The storm, which struck around 8 pm, destroyed his two poultry sheds, ripping off tin roofs and scattering debris over a vast area.
Just two days prior to the disaster, Sarkar had purchased 2,500 broiler chickens at Rs 50 each hoping for a profitable future. However, the cyclone wiped out the entire stock, rendering the family helpless. The couple, who worked tirelessly on the farm, now find themselves on the streets, grappling with immense loss.
“The storm blew away even the Chinese tents of my house onto trees and open fields. I had so many hopes of securing my children’s future through this farm, but now everything is gone,” a devastated Sarkar said, breaking down in tears.
In his appeal to the government, Sarkar pleaded for urgent assistance to rebuild his livelihood, seeking support to help his family recover from the unforeseen calamity.
