Agartala, 10th January 2025: The Chief Minister of a neighboring state visited Tripura and made a controversial statement, saying that half of a loaf of bread will be eaten by the people of West Bengal and the rest by the people of Tripura. He added that the people of Tripura are wise and have realized that the bread from “Didi” (a reference to West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee) will be fed to the dogs. This, he claimed, is why the people of Tripura did not support Didi and instead sided with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in 2018.
Former Tripura Chief Minister and MP Biplab Kumar Deb, without directly naming Mamata Banerjee targeted her during his speech. He stated, “The people of Tripura knew that if Tripura could be saved from the communists, only Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah could do it.”
The remarks were made on Friday during an event organized by ward number 13 of Agartala Municipal Corporation to celebrate its third anniversary. The event aimed to felicitate meritorious individuals from the area and distribute blankets. MP Biplab Kumar Deb emphasized that only the BJP can bring about development, stating, “Communism means moving in the opposite direction of development. Communists are always thinking about how to loot and ruin Tripura.”
Deb also took a dig at communist leaders and activists, accusing them of collecting money in the name of various associations and becoming like associations themselves. He humorously added, “These communists do not even have a smile on their faces. God has given them such beautiful bodies, but they sit in such a way that they have become a source of laughter.”
Following the program, MP Biplab Kumar Deb felicitated the dignitaries by dressing them in chadors. The event was also attended by local corporator Pradeep Chandra, the zonal chairman of the North Zone of Agartala Municipal Corporation and others.
