Agartala, 8th September 2025 :   Long-standing concerns over the effectiveness of the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Teliamura have resurfaced following a controversial theft incident at the local railway station yesterday.

Despite repeated complaints from residents about rising antisocial activities in and around the station premises, locals allege that GRP personnel have failed to take decisive action. This perceived inaction has sparked growing anxiety over the safety of passengers and the general public.

The situation escalated when a theft was reported at a shop located on the station platform. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, GRP officers detained a minor in connection with the incident. However, the manner of the arrest has drawn sharp criticism. Eyewitnesses claim the boy was tied with a rope and dragged by police, a move many have condemned as inhumane and disproportionate.

The incident has triggered widespread unrest in the area. Regular commuters expressed frustration, noting that over a hundred passengers use the station daily, yet security lapses continue to plague the facility. “If the GRP cannot ensure safety inside the station itself, how can the public trust them?” asked one local resident.
