Agartala, 5th June 2025 :  A Congress delegation led by District Congress President Gopinath Saha submitted a nine-point demand memorandum to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rajib Sutradhar at the Sepahijala Police Superintendent’s office in Bishramganj this afternoon. The demands highlight concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in Bishalgarh subdivision.

The delegation included senior Congress leaders Titu Ahmed, Taramiya, Keshram Debbarma and others, initially sought to hand over the memorandum to District Superintendent of Police (SP) Bijoy Debbarma. However, as he was unavailable, the document was submitted to ASP Sutradhar.

Speaking to the media personnel here, Congress leader Gopinath Saha alleged a surge in criminal activities in Bishalgarh subdivision, stating, “The reign of goons continues unabated. People are not safe even during the daytime, as incidents of robbery, theft, and looting occur openly.” He further criticized law enforcement authorities, citing recent instances of police vehicles being targeted.

The Congress delegation’s nine-point demand includes: Immediate restoration of law and order infrastructure in Bishalgarh subdivision; Identification and strict monitoring of perpetrators involved in theft, robbery, and kidnapping, with stringent action against them; Legal crackdown on drug dealers and users; Installation of CCTV cameras in sensitive areas and an increase in police patrolling; An end to alleged harassment of opposition political parties through false cases; Police neutrality in political matters to ensure democratic governance; Stronger measures to curb rising crimes against women; Awareness campaigns for youth against drug abuse, under the ‘Prayas’ initiative; and Round-the-clock police surveillance on Bishalgarh Bypass Road.

The Congress leaders urged the police administration to take swift action in addressing these concerns, warning that failure to do so could escalate public unrest. The delegation emphasized the need for accountability and proactive measures to ensure the safety of residents in the subdivision.
