Agartala, 24th October 2025:   Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman tody described the Shantir Bazar incident as a reflection of internal discord within the BJP. He said attempts are being made to distort the present by invoking past tensions, adding that some groups are trying to bring back the volatile political situation of the 1980s in the state for their own gains.

Speaking at GB Hospital, where he visited injured individuals following the incident, Barman said he had inquired about the condition of the injured, including the BDO and an engineer. He termed the attack in front of the police as “highly condemnable” and alleged that it targeted people simply because they are Bengali. He further stated that law and order in the state appears to be in disarray, describing the situation as akin to rule by lawlessness.

Barman demanded swift legal action and appropriate punishment for the perpetrators, including those who called for the bandh. “We cannot allow such incidents to continue. The Chief Minister must take strict measures against these acts,” he said.

He also alleged that the incident was a result of internal conflicts within the BJP. Criticizing the party, he said, “Such actions are being taken to tarnish the present by playing political games.”

Addressing the Chief Minister directly, Barman stressed that it is the government’s responsibility to protect the lives and property of the people. He expressed concern that ordinary citizens are being harmed while the police merely watch. He appealed to the Chief Minister to allow the police to operate freely, stating, “If the police are given a free hand, law and order in the state can be restored.”

Barman wished for the speedy recovery of the injured and urged compensation for those who suffered property damage, based on the outcome of investigations.
