Agartala, 15th November 2024: The Tripura Pradesh Congress organized a ‘Sanghati Padayatra’ at Dharmanagar, the district headquarters of North Tripura district demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha. The Congress warned that if the Chief Minister does not resign soon, they will launch a larger movement in the coming days.
The march coincided with the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31st. The Pradesh Congress has planned several programs from October 31st to November 19th to commemorate her legacy. As part of these activities, the Dharmanagar District Congress organized the ‘Sanghati Padayatra’, which began at the Congress Bhavan and proceeded through various streets of the city.
The yatra was attended by Pradesh Youth Congress vice-president Nirupam Dey, PCC member Kebal Kanti Nandi, District Youth Congress President Jahangir Hossain, PCC member Hiralal Nath, Panisagar Block Congress President Subendhu Bhattacharjee, Mahila Congress District President Manshi Malakar, Congress leader Digbijoy Chakraborty and other Congress workers.
Addressing the march, Pradesh Youth Congress vice-president Nirupam Dey condemned the recent riots in Kadamtala. “If the state Chief Minister had instructed the security administration to take appropriate action, this incident would not have escalated,” Dey stated. He emphasized the Congress workers’ demand for the Chief Minister’s resignation adding, “If Professor Dr. Manik Saha does not step down, we will intensify our movement across the state.”
The marchers raised slogans calling for the Chief Minister’s resignation and vowed to continue their protests until their demands are met. The event highlighted the Congress’s commitment to addressing the issues and ensuring accountability from the state government.
