Agartala, 15th November 2024:   Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Communications, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, launched a sharp critique against the Congress party, accusing it of sidelining the indigenous communities and stifling their voices during its tenure.

Speaking at the State-Level Celebration of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala, Scindia asserted that indigenous societies in India faced neglect and underdevelopment post-independence under Congress rule.

“Congress suppressed the voices of indigenous communities and deprived them of opportunities. Their history and contributions, including those of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, were ignored. However, after 2014, when Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, the scenario changed drastically,” Scindia remarked.

He praised PM Modi’s leadership for recognizing the contributions of tribal leaders and ensuring representation for indigenous communities in governance. “For the first time in history, an indigenous leader, Draupadi Murmu, was elected as the President of India, a moment of pride and empowerment for the community. When her name was announced, Congress protested, showing their disregard for indigenous pride. But under PM Modi’s leadership, she is now charting a new course for the country,” he said.

Highlighting initiatives for tribal welfare, Scindia mentioned the declaration of November 15 as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas to honor Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s legacy. He noted significant steps like the Prime Minister’s visit to Munda’s birthplace and the introduction of schemes such as the Janman Yojana, supported by a ₹34,000-crore budget for tribal welfare.

“The Modi government has provided Ayushman Bharat health cards, ensured water connections, enhanced education opportunities, and brought meaningful change to the lives of indigenous people,” Scindia added.

Concluding his address, Scindia expressed his personal connection to the North East and pride in serving as DoNER Minister. “It is my privilege to work under PM Modi, who has prioritized the development and dignity of the indigenous community,” he said.

The event marked a celebration of tribal pride and reinforced the government’s commitment to empowering indigenous communities.
