Agartala, 10th June 2025:    Growing public frustration over erratic power supply and poor electricity services in Teliamura led the local unit of the Congress party to stage a protest today. Members of the Teliamura Block Congress Committee gathered outside the office of the Senior Manager of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) to voice their grievances and press for immediate corrective measures.

During the demonstration, the party submitted a seven-point memorandum demanding urgent action to address issues such as frequent load shedding, delays in providing new connections, and alleged moves to privatize electricity services. The protestors also called for an end to what they described as a conspiracy to hike power tariffs despite Tripura’s claimed self-sufficiency in electricity generation.

Senior Congress leaders, including former MLA Ashok Kumar Baidya and Teliamura Block Congress president Atanu Pal, accused the state government of unjustifiably burdening citizens with high electricity bills. They alleged that outstanding dues from various government departments are being shifted onto the public under the guise of tariff hikes.

The Senior Manager of the electricity department received the deputation and assured the delegation that their concerns would be looked into promptly.

Congress leaders announced their intention to continue their agitation if the demands are not met, reiterating their commitment to stand with the people in the fight for affordable and reliable power services.
