Agartala, 10th June 2025:    Eight-year-old Nitiya Shil, a resident of Alor Dishari Child Home Care in Amtali has successfully undergone free surgery at Gomati District Hospital today.

Dr. Biswajit Pal, a surgeon at the hospital revealed that Nitiya was born with a right-sided inguinal hernia. He further explained that she underwent a herniotomy, a surgical procedure to repair the hernia which was performed under spinal anesthesia.

While an inguinal hernia is not typically life-threatening in its early stages, untreated cases can lead to complications such as incarceration, where tissue becomes trapped, or strangulation, which cuts off blood supply and requires urgent medical intervention. Thanks to the surgery, Nitiya is now expected to lead a more comfortable life.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Kajal Kumar Das stated that all medical services for Nitiya were provided free of charge and that she is recovering well. He also acknowledged the medical team, including Dr. Bishwajit Pal, Dr. Amaresh Bhaumik and Dr. Moutushi Choudhury for successfully conducting the operation.

Post-surgery, Nitiya appeared cheerful and Dr. Pal confirmed that she is set to be discharged tomorrow.
