Agartala, 18th December 2024: The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Wednesday staged a protest rally in Agartala, demanding a probe into alleged financial irregularities by industrialist Gautam Adani and calling on the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take decisive action to resolve the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
The rally, organized as part of a nationwide protest led by the All India Congress Committee (AICC), marched towards the Governor’s residence but was halted near the Circuit House by security forces. Despite this, the party successfully submitted a memorandum to Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu.
TPCC President Asish Kumar Saha said the protest was aligned with similar demonstrations across the country to highlight issues of financial fraud and the deteriorating situation in Manipur.
“We have submitted a memorandum to the Governor demanding an investigation into the financial scams, fraud, and money laundering linked to Gautam Adani. Additionally, we have raised concerns over the Manipur crisis, which remains unresolved even after 18 months. This is part of a coordinated nationwide effort by the Congress to seek justice and accountability,” Saha stated.
He criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence on the Manipur issue, highlighting the loss of lives, destruction of property, and displacement of communities.
“Despite the grave situation in Manipur, the Prime Minister has neither visited the region nor addressed the issue in Parliament. Across India, we are urging Governors to push for a thorough investigation into the allegations against Gautam Adani and to press the Centre for immediate action to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur. The economic condition of the country is worsening, and the people are struggling,” Saha added.
