Agartala, 2nd June 2025: The Kadamtala-Kurti Block Congress Committee submitted a deputation to the Kadamtala Block Development Officer (BDO) today, placing an 11-point charter of demands.
The memorandum, addressed to Sanjeeb Debnath, the BDO of Kadamtala, urged immediate action on several pressing local issues. These included demands to stop corruption and favouritism in ruling party-led gram panchayats, ensure fair distribution of government relief materials to flood-affected people, publish income and expenditure reports in every panchayat, and relocate the South Kadamtala Panchayat office, among others.
Talking to the media, Abdul Basit Choudhury, General Secretary of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), expressed serious concerns over widespread corruption in the panchayats under the ruling party within Kadamtala Block and beyond. He also alleged that opposition panchayat members were being harassed and deliberately excluded from development project information, a move he claimed was intended to facilitate the misappropriation of government funds. He criticized the lack of transparency in the functioning of the panchayats.
Choudhury further pointed out that although a new building for the South Kadamtala Panchayat was completed years ago, it remains unused. He also demanded compensation for individuals recently affected by natural disasters. These issues, he said, formed the core of the core of the deputation.
“The block officer assured us that the matters would be investigated soon,” he added. However, he warned that if no action was taken, the party would launch a larger movement in the near future.
The deputation was submitted in the presence of President Kadamtala Block Gias Uddin Choudhury; and other party leaders.
