Agartala, January 07: The Congress party received a boost in Shantirbazar assembly constituency on Sunday, when 45 voters, including 13 leaders, joined the party from various other parties. The new members were inducted into the party by Pradesh Congress President Asish Kumar Saha at a meeting held at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan.
The meeting was attended by former Minister Manindra Reang and other senior party leaders. The new members mostly came from the BJP, CPIM and TIPRA Motha parties, which are the main rivals of the Congress in the state.
Saha welcomed the new members and said that they had joined the party with the intention of strengthening it and working for its progress. He said that the Congress was the only party that could provide good governance and development to the people of the state.
