Agartala, 19th November 2024 : On the occasion of Indira Gandhi’s birth anniversary, the Pradesh Congress organized the Sanghati Padyatra across Tripura creating a significant impact in Melaghar. Pradesh Congress President Asish Kumar Saha led the padyatra, which started from the Melaghar petrol pump, traversed the Melaghar market and concluded at Lal Mia Chowmuhani.
The event was attended by Pradesh Youth Congress President Neelkamal Saha, District Congress President Dipak Chakraborty, District SC Cell President Laxman Das, General Secretary Habil Mia and other Congress workers. “We received a huge response in the solidarity march,” said PCC President Saha, who also criticized the current BJP government.
Security was tight around the march, reflecting the event’s significance. In the stage, Uttam Debnath, the younger brother of Dhanpur assembly constituency MLA Bindu Debnath and Biplab Ghosh, the younger brother of BJP Sepahijala Zilla Parishad member Prasenjit Ghosh, left the BJP and joined the Congress. Saha welcomed them with the Congress party flag.
The defection of these key figures has sparked discussions among party workers, particularly in the Dhanpur assembly constituency highlighting the growing discontent within the BJP ranks. “Their joining the Congress is a significant development,” noted a party worker, pointing to the potential shifts in political dynamics in the state.
