Agartala, 20th July 2023: Tanay Saha, Secretary of Contractor Association of Belonia Sub-division has written a letter to the President of India Draupadi Murmu and Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha to take action against alleged BJP miscreants and Mafia members who are allegedly taking extortion from the contractors.
In the letter, Tanay has mentioned names of nine persons who are reportedly BJP workers in the South district.
In the letter, Tanay said, “We are writing this letter to inform you that when we (Belonia Contractor Association Members) are get work order from any Government Department in the Hrishyamukh area, some mafia gangs start demanding huge amounts of money. Those gang members threatened to kill us if payment is not clear. They are always disturbing us on the construction side. From Election result 2023, this situation remains the same with us continuously”.
The nine gang members are Nakul Pal, G.S Mondal Hrishyamukh, Biswajit Mitra, Rajib Datta, Booth Prasident, Raju Nath, BJP G.S. South Tripura District, Sanju Nama, Vice President Yuva Morcha South Tripura District, Badal Bhowmik, Vice President Hirshymukh Mandal South Tripura, Rajib Baidya, BJYM Hrishyamukh mandal president, Rajib Paul, Hrishyamukh mandal secretary, Subrata Sarkar and others co- members.
He further alleged that continuing work and Quality maintenance is impossible nowadays for those gang members.
“They are continuously creating pressure on us. We informed everywhere like Police station, Local Politicians, State politicians etc. But we did not get any response as well as any action against those gang members. So we feel very hopeless. From 2023 Election result situation of our state is very nasty and unpleasant. They are continuously demanding and also collecting money using name of “Tripura Pradesh BIP””, he alleged.
He further claimed that the mafias have allegedly taken extortion money of Rs 5 crores from 20 contractors since March 2023. “They are always misusing political power in normal people. They create a very bad image on local community. If this type of extortion works are continuously happening it directly effect on upcoming election. So, I therefore request you to kindly see this and take necessary action against them”, the letter reads.
However, when contacted him, he however denied of writing such letter.Meanwhile, in the letter Tanay mentioned names of some persons who reportedly took extortion, has also filed FIR against Tanay with the police station.
