Agartala, 12th March 2025:  A violent incident took place in the West Kupilong area of the Bagma assembly constituency under Udaipur subdivision centering on the removal of government construction materials. The issue arose after the Public Works Department (PWD) sanctioned funds for the construction of a drainage system in response to long-standing demands from local residents. The project was entrusted to contractor Jayanta Saha with 4,000 bricks and 50 bags of cement supplied from the government office.

Tensions escalated when Dipankar Nama, husband of the former Pradhan allegedly attempted to take the materials for personal use. Local residents strongly protested stating, “These materials are meant for constructing the drainage system. They cannot be taken to anyone’s house.”

Despite the challenges, Jayanta Saha commenced the construction work and planned to return surplus materials to the government office upon completion. However, last night, while returning home, Saha was brutally attacked by Dipankar Nama. Hearing his cries for help, locals rushed to the scene and shifted him to Gomati District Hospital, where doctors administered 29 stitches to his head and body. Saha remains under medical care.

Although a formal complaint has been lodged at Killa Police Station, authorities have yet to arrest Dipankar Nama. This delay has sparked outrage among the residents. A local resident remarked, “The police must arrest Dipankar Nama immediately and ensure he faces strict punishment. Justice needs to be served.” The local people continues to demand action in the wake of the shocking incident.
