Agartala, 12th March 2025: Agartala witnessed a spirited campaign on Wednesday as the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) marked its 44th foundation day with a six-point demand agenda.
The demands included stricter punishment for those who abuse women and addressing the abnormal rise in the price of essential goods. Activists from various organizations marched from Swami Vivekananda Maidan to Raj Bhavan, only to be stopped by police at the Circuit House area. Undeterred, the activists organized a roadshow at the Circuit House here later in the day.
Speaking on the occasion, AIDWA state vice-president Rama Das stated, “We hoisted the flag at Swami Vivekananda Maidan to commemorate the foundation day of our association. Today, we have resolved to present a deputation to the Governor with our six-point demands.”
Das elaborated on the association’s key demands, which include ensuring work, food security, addressing the rising prices of goods, combating violence against women, and creating employment opportunities for the unemployed. She further alleged, “There has been anarchy in Tripura for the last seven years. There is no other way but to unite and fight against this.”
The campaign highlighted the association’s commitment to addressing pressing social and economic issues, despite facing resistance.
