Agartala, 10th January 2026: A massive fire broke out in the densely populated Rajnagar area under Teliamura police station in the early hours of Saturday, reducing a contractor’s property to ashes and sparking panic among residents.
The blaze completely destroyed a rented room located behind the house of contractor Utpal Kanti Roy, along with a two-wheeler—an Avenger bike bearing registration number TR01AN-9310. Fortunately, the tenant, a resident of Pecharthal, was not present at the time of the incident.
Roy suspects the fire originated from an electrical short circuit. He estimated the total damage, including the room and the bike, to be between ₹10–12 lakh.
Upon receiving the alert, a fire engine from the Teliamura Fire Service Department rushed to the spot. Firefighters battled the intense flames for hours before finally bringing the situation under control.
The incident has triggered widespread concern in the Rajnagar locality, with residents demanding a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire and a review of electrical connections and safety measures in the area.
This tragedy once again highlights the serious gaps in urban fire safety infrastructure, underscoring how inadequate preparedness can lead to devastating consequences in densely populated regions.
