Agartala, 15th May 2025:  Tension erupted in the Debipur 26 Card area of Kamalasagar assembly constituency after locals locked the Anganwadi Kendra in protest against the alleged appointment of worker Malabika Datta’s daughter as a teacher. Residents backed by the local women’s group demanded that the center remain locked until a new worker is officially appointed.

Sources informed that the long-standing grievances had been brewing against Malabika Datta, who had been serving as the Worker alongside a helper at the Anganwadi Kendra. Allegations surfaced that she failed to maintain proper attendance, lacked educational proficiency, and mismanaged the mid-day meal program. “For nine months, she has been consuming mid-day meals meant for students, while pregnant women were denied their share of rice,” a local resident claimed.

In response to these complaints, two officers from the Bishalgarh CDPO office inspected the center and reportedly found discrepancies. “She could not even recite basic alphabets properly,” one of the officials revealed. Subsequently, the officials instructed Malabika Datta to step down transferring responsibilities to the helper.

However, tensions escalated this morning when locals found Malabika Datta’s daughter dressed in Anganwadi attire attempting to take her mother’s place at the Kendra. Outraged, residents questioned the legitimacy of her presence. “If her mother was removed due to complaints, how can her daughter take over?” a protestor asked.

Reacting swiftly, members of the women’s group locked the center and declared that it would not reopen until the appointment of a new worker. Despite the uproar, Malabika Datta’s daughter insisted she had permission from the area Pradhan to work at the Kendra.
