Agartala, 25th January 2026: A mass convention was organized by the Jirania Sub-Division Committee at the CITU state office to mobilize support for the nationwide strike called on February 12. The strike has been declared to protest against what trade unions describe as “anti-worker” labour codes and other anti-people policies of the central and state governments.
Representatives from central trade unions, the Sanyukta Kisan Morcha, and several mass organizations attended the convention. Speakers warned that the new labour codes would erode workers’ rights, undermine job security, and negatively affect wage structures. They also alleged that government policies are increasingly burdening farmers, workers, and ordinary citizens.
Radha Charan Debbarma, along with leaders of various labour and farmers’ organizations, was present at the gathering. Addressing the convention, speakers emphasized the need for a united movement to ensure the success of the strike. They urged intensified campaigns and organizational work at both village and urban levels.
Organizers announced that in the coming days, wider public outreach and preparatory meetings will be held to build mass opinion in support of the strike.
