Cooperative Week 2023 celebrated in North district of Tripura

Agartala, 20th November 2023:  The 70th All India Cooperative Week 2023, a national event to promote the cooperative movement in India, was celebrated in the North district of Tripura with various programs and discussions. The inaugural function was held at the Vivekananda Swardha Satabarshiki Bhavan in Dharmanagar on Monday, where the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Biswa Bandhu Sen, was the chief guest. He inaugurated the event by lighting a lamp and addressing the gathering.

Sen praised the role of cooperatives in the socio-economic development of the people and the country. He cited the examples of Bangladesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra, where cooperatives have made significant progress in various sectors such as dairy, fisheries, agriculture and handicrafts. He said that India has achieved recognition as a three trillion dollar economy and is aiming to become a five trillion dollar economy with the help of cooperatives.

He also lamented the decline of the cooperative sector in Tripura due to political interference and mismanagement. He said that the present state government and the central government are trying to revive the cooperatives in the state and provide them with necessary support and guidance. He urged the people to join the cooperative movement and work together for their own and the state’s welfare.

The inaugural function was presided over by the Chairman of the Uttar Tripura Zilla Parishad’s Sabhadipati Bhabatosh Das. Other dignitaries who attended the event included the State Cooperative Society Chairman Molina Debnath, the Hitsadhani Cooperative Society Chairman Alkesh Aditya, the North District DM Debapriya Bardhan, the Dharmanagar Municipal Council Chairman Pradyut De Sarkar, the Kanchanpur Sakthi Samiti’s Kamal Krishnanath and the DRCS Anil Debbarma.

Representatives of various cooperatives of Dharmanagar and North district also participated in the event and shared their views and experiences. The event was organized by the District Cooperative Union and the District Cooperative Officer.
