Agartala, 19th January 2025: Local residents have raised serious concerns over the alleged corruption and poor-quality construction of the road from Dhumachhara to Kayram Para Hapangraja under the Karamchara Assembly constituency.
According to multiple sources, the roadwork, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Manu Public Works Department (PWD), is being overseen by the contractor Rajiv Prasad, a name well-known in the region for his involvement in numerous public works projects.
Residents have criticized the road for its substandard construction, with several claiming that the quality of the materials used is far below the expected standard. The poor state of the road has caused significant inconvenience for commuters, especially during the monsoon season when conditions worsen. Local authorities are being urged to conduct a thorough investigation into these allegations, as locals believe that this roadwork is just one of many subpar projects handled by Rajiv Prasad in the Longtarai Velly area.
“This is not just about one road. There are multiple such projects across the region that have been poorly executed. The roadwork here is a clear example of how government funds are being misused. The local mafia seems to be thriving, with public money being diverted for personal gain,” a concerned resident said.
While the Public Works Department is yet to respond to the allegations, residents are hopeful that an investigation will be launched to assess the situation and hold accountable those responsible for the shoddy construction. The pressure on authorities is growing as public discontent continues to mount.
