Agartala, 10th December 2025:   The Center for Protection of Democratic Rights and Secularism on Wednesday marked International Human Rights Day with a solemn program at Rajbari, Agartala, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding human rights, strengthening democratic values, and ensuring public safety.

During the event, speakers highlighted the urgent need to protect citizens’ fundamental freedoms. Addressing journalists after the program, a representative of the organization expressed sharp discontent over the prevailing situation in the country.

He alleged that despite earlier measures taken in several states regarding SIR (Special Investigation Reports), ordinary people are now facing unprecedented harassment. “Under the pretext of SIR, democratic rights and personal freedoms are being interfered with. Certain administrative actions are creating an atmosphere of fear among citizens,” he said.

From the Human Rights Day platform, the representative urged the government to take immediate and effective steps to safeguard basic rights. He stressed that democracy thrives only when citizens feel secure and are free to express their opinions without fear.

The organization also announced plans to launch further awareness programs in the coming days to strengthen public understanding of human rights.
